Roy Davis Sr. and Lawrence Switzer founded S&D Coffee in 1927 with a vision for S&D to transform the coffee business serving the grocery marketplace in the early days. Under Roy Davis Jr, who succeeded his father after Roy Davis, Sr’s death, we became focused on independent restaurants in the 60’s. Our entrée into national accounts and national c-store accounts began in the 80’s and 90’s. During this time, S&D proved it is not afraid to push the boundaries and enter new channels and markets. It also remained, at its heart, a family-owned business.
In 2000, Roy Davis Jr. retired from his role as President and CEO and retained the role Chairman of the Board, appointing Ron Hinson as President & CEO. The company invested in square footage expansion for warehousing and packaging lines as well as addition of tea blending capability, including establishment of direct sourcing of tea. Through the transition of day-to-day leadership, the company’s family roots were its pride and the basis for its guiding principles.

In 2006, a state-of-the-art tea blending facility was completed to allow for the flexibility to formulate custom tea blends for customers, as well as meet the manufacturing demands of S&D tea brands.
S&D Coffee has been in continuous operation since 1927- the same year that Charles Lindbergh executed a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean for the first time in history!
In 2009, S&D started using a cold brew extraction technique to produce liquid products at commercial scale. Armed with this expertise, S&D constructed a new facility and has become a leader in natural extracts and concentrates from coffee, tea and botanicals.
In 2011, Ron Hinson was given the responsibility for S&D’s future when he was named Chairman of the Board, in addition to his President and CEO title. Under Ron’s leadership, S&D Coffee & Tea has seen tremendous growth through its focus on delivering excellence in customized strategies, products and services built to help customers grow their business.
S&D has a customer base that spans across the 48 contiguous states!
Additional building renovations and the purchase of a new facility in west Concord increased manufacturing capacity and added much needed office space. This expansion, along with a major investment in roasting, grinding and packaging equipment occurred between 2012 and 2014.
With an eye to the future, S&D continues to innovate and deliver the finest quality coffee, tea and liquid extracts to the market place. Since August 2016, as a subsidiary of Cott Corporation, S&D continues to develop its successful business model while taking advantage of Cott’s global reach, innovative technology and supply chain integration. The values, both family and business, instilled by Roy Davis and his family from the beginning, continue to fuel S&D’s passion for excellence and innovation and will continue to do so in the years to come.
