S&D and JDRF: Showing our Support
Springtime at S&D Coffee & Tea means warmer weather, afternoon showers and our annual support of JDRF.
JDRF is the largest charity funding Type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. T1D, also called juvenile diabetes, is a disorder of the body’s immune system, and people with T1D must take insulin to regulate their blood glucose levels. According to its website, JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D.
With a number of S&D employees’ families being impacted by this disease, we chose to support JDRF through fundraising and awareness efforts. Each year, S&D rallies around the cause through an employee-based fundraising campaign.
In 2014, S&D raised more than $20,000 for JDRF. The bar was set high for 2015, and employees delivered. The campaign began with a kick-off event, complete with BBQ, line dancing, a 50/50 bingo fundraiser and prize raffle. Departments also sold paper JDRF sneakers to show their support for $1 each. A little friendly competition between departments led to record-breaking sneaker sales. In addition, a bake sale and raffle gave employees one more way to show their support—and potentially win a day off!—before we wrapped up fundraising.
Despite the rainy weather, the JDRF walk on April 25th saw a great turnout – wrapping up another year of impressive support. We not only met our goal, but exceeded it with an employee fundraising total of approximately $22,000, part of an overall donation from S&D of $34,500. Thank you to everyone who showed their support throughout this campaign!
JDRF’s mission is to find a cure for T1D and its complications through the support of research. We hope our efforts help to bring them one step closer.
