S&D’s Director of CSR & Sustainability Speaking at Innovation Forum on Smallholder Farmers
CONCORD, N.C. – David Piza, director of corporate social responsibility and sustainability for S&D Coffee & Tea, will be speaking at the upcoming Innovation Forum event on how business can engage smallholder farmers — held in Washington, DC, on October 19 and 20. In addition to moderating a round-table breakout session on the challenges farmers face in Latin America, he will present on supply chain strategy and what buyers can do to boost access to market for smallholders.
“The smallholder value chain represents a significant opportunity for improvement, and buying companies can play a key role — from achieving better traceability to finding collaborative solutions,” said Piza. “I look forward to connecting with the stakeholders at the Innovation Forum event and continuing this important conversation in order to better influence sustainability throughout the value chain.”
As director of corporate social responsibility and sustainability, Piza oversees the implementation of S&D’s resource efficiency and sustainable sourcing strategies. He cultivates relationships with trading partners, coffee growers and S&D sourcing communities with the goal of generating farmer prosperity through practices that also lead to environmental stewardship and social development. Piza is also a member of the Specialty Coffee Association of America Sustainability Council and Lectures Committee and the McDonald’s North America Supplier Advisory Council.
