News Release: S&D’s Jones and Redmond Named Top Women in Convenience

CONCORD, N. C. – June 4, 2014 – S&D Coffee & Tea has announced that Jennie Jones, vice president of sales and marketing for convenience stores, and Wendy Redmond, director of sales for convenience stores, are two of 32 women cited as the 2014 Top Women in Convenience by Convenience Store News (CSN). Both Jones and Redmond were recognized in the Senior Level Executive category. The award is based on achievements of the previous 12 months, including innovative corporate initiatives, extraordinary financial and strategic accomplishments, astute-problem solving acumen, exceptional performance, selfless charitable participation and other attributes that go above and beyond the call of duty.

“To honor and bring awareness to the achievements of females in c-store retailing, we’re recognizing a diverse array of females in the industry, from leaders to mentors to role models,” says Convenience Store News Managing Editor Brian Berk. This is the first year Convenience Store News has presented the Top Women in Convenience awards; judging was conducted by CSN in conjunction with the Network of Executive Women (NEW).

Jones has been with S&D since 2004 and, over the past ten years, has helped to grow the national convenience store division into one of the company’s largest and most successful. A founding member of NEW, Jones has three decades of experience in the convenience industry and an inspiring history as a leader and role model who has constantly helped to mentor and promote women within the convenience channel.

“Accomplishments are important, of course—it’s a lot easier to get things done if you have a track record—but it’s being recognized for ‘giving unselfishly’ that means the most to me,” says Jones. “That’s how you really get ahead, by helping the people on your team to grow. NEW now has over nine thousand members and I’m proud of that.”

Redmond joined the S&D team in January of this year, having worked exclusively in the c-store channel since 2005. “I’ve been fortunate to have several amazing mentors throughout the years who offered their guidance and support,” she says. “I hope to continue that tradition and do the same for the next generation coming up through the ranks.”

Convenience Store News will spotlight the 2014 Top Women in Convenience in its June issue and will formally present the awards at a celebration event later this year.
